Patrick Summerell (he/him)

Clinical Neuropsychologist and Board Approved Supervisor
Associate of YCP since 2026

I am a senior neuropsychologist who places emphasis on the concerns and goals of my clients, whether they are seeking assessment or neuropsychological interventions. I strive to understand the concerns and difficulties my clients are managing and to work together to understand what factors are impacting their symptoms. I’m hoping that I can provide clients with clarity and some achievable strategies and recommendations regardless of whether or no they meet the criteria for a particular diagnosis.

My experience and background

I have experience across diverse neuropsychological, rehabilitation and specialist hospital settings. I have experience in oncology and neuro-rehabilitation settings, which have allowed me to develop particular expertise in the cognitive effects of cancer and cancer treatment. I have also worked as a psychology manager within an acute hospital, providing neuropsychological assessment, consultation and intervention across a broad range of medical and neurological presentations. More recently, I have focused my clinical expertise on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric conditions. I currently work within a specialist service in public mental health, where I provide assessment and support to adults with complex neuropsychiatric presentations. My clinical interests include dementia and cognitive decline, neurological conditions, cancer, acquired brain injury (including traumatic brain injury and concussion), ADHD, Autism and complex neuropsychiatric conditions.

Assessments Offered

I offer comprehensive neuropsychological assessments to characterise cognitive strengths and difficulties, assist with diagnostic clarification, and understand the impact of neurological, neurodegenerative, psychiatric and medical conditions on everyday functioning. I also provide assessments of decision-making capacity where appropriate. I offer targeted assessments of autism and ADHD for adults.

Interventions Offered

I provide interventions to help clients understand and manage cognitive changes and maximise their everyday functioning. This includes cognitive rehabilitation, cognitive strategies and memory management, psychoeducation, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and support with adjustment to neurological illness and cognitive change. My approach is informed by evidence-based neuropsychological practice and is tailored to the individual's abilities, circumstances and goals.
